The First NAF Super Series is here! The GB Team Championships

I recently wrote about how the NAF Super Series had been created to supercharge Blood Bowl friendships and I’m delighted to launch the first NAF approved Super Series - The GB Team Championships!

The GB Team Championships as a Super Series will offer coaches the chance to compete for the title, but more importantly have the opportunity to travel from top to bottom in the UK with team mates meeting coaches from all over these isles, and hopefully from further ashore with notable international coach presence at the UKTC and the Home Nations in previous editions.

What tournaments are in The GB Team Championship?

In 2025 there are going to be four team tournaments in the Super Series, all with a four coach team format that are well spaced out in the calendar. The first tournament is the southernmost with the Kent Team Championships (KTC) in the stunning city of Canterbury in March at The Spitfire Ground, home to Kent County Cricket - delightful setting.

This is followed up a couple of months later in May where the northernmost edition of the Series will see some coaches cross the border as they head to Glasgow for the Scottish Team Championships (STC). Like KTC the Scottish edition has grown from a one to a two-day affair as coaches show an ever-increasing appetite to play shoulder-to-shoulder with their friends.

Next up in the series is The Home Nations, in the Midlands, and the UK’s largest team tournament that’s faithful to the Eurobowl ruleset. With both a Bowl and an Open this is either a great practice run for the Eurobowl whilst local bragging rights are battled for or it’s a great alternative for coaches that don’t have the opportunity to travel overseas. With Team France and Team Italy slated to appear in 2025 the Blood Bowl is going to be spicier than ever!

Finally, and fittingly concluding The GB Team Championships, is the crown jewels, the UK Team Challenge, more affectionately known as UKTC. It’s the biggest tournament on the UK Blood Bowl calendar and has coaches from near and far come together with next year celebrating its 10th edition!

Tickets are still available for KTC and STC if you want to take part, see Talk Fantasy Football (TFF). The Home Nations tickets go on sale tomorrow (Sunday 8 September at 10am, See TFF for details) and the UKTC tickets have yet to be released.

How does the GB Team Championship Super Series work - Build your Squad

To compete a Squad can be entered into any, and all of the four tournaments. A Squad can be made up of a maximum of ten coaches giving flexibility should you find you can’t have the same coaches turn up to all four tournaments due to other commitments - perfect for League teams. The Squad does not have to declare in advance who their ten coaches might be, but can add them into their Squad as the tournaments progress over the course of the year.

Within the idea of a Squad of ten, you can in effect turn out up with two teams, eight coaches, at any one of the tournaments. There will be points awarded based on where the Squads finish, but if you have two teams from the same Squad, only the top placed team’s score will be added to overall charts for the Squad.

If the tournament has fewer than sixty teams playing then there will be points handed out for the top 20 places. If the tournament has greater than sixty teams then the top 30 teams will receive points. (See scoring tables below)

If one squad has two teams who finish first and second then they will only receive points for finishing first, with the points for second going to the third place team and so on. However the second place finish will be counted for the sake of tiebreakers.

The Squad accumulates points over the four tournaments in the Super Series, and the Squad with the most points will be declared the winner at UKTC! There will be prizes for the winner, runner-up and third place overall.

Do we have to register our Squad to enter the Super Series?

No, Squads and teams that gain places in these tournaments will be automatically tracked so you don't need to register your Squad and teams.

How do you know which teams are in which Squad?

You'll need to come up with a Squad name who's banner that you'll fly under for the season, and teams within the Squad, if you have two in the same tournament, must acknowledge the Squad. For example I play with a great bunch of coaches who call themselves Tactics and Theatrics. When they have two teams in a tournament one tends to be called More Tactics than Theatrics, and the other More Theatrics than Tactics.

If I play for a Squad at Kent Team Champs am I tied to that Squad for all of the tournaments?

In short a coach can play for different Squads, as long as the Squad they’re playing for doesn’t exceed ten coaches in total. So this means any coach could play for up to four Squads in the Super Series hanging out with different mates at different tournaments and still being able to contribute.

What if Squads end up on the same points after the four tournaments?

Well like any good Blood Bowl tournament there are tiebreakers to separate and declare a winner. The tiebreakers in order are:

  1. Head-to-Head results of where teams from the two squads face each other across the four events with a cumulative score, two points for a win, one point for a draw

  2. The Squad with the most tournament wins

  3. The Squad with the most second places, then third, down to fifth place to separate squads

  4. The Squad that has played in the most tournaments in the Series

  5. Failing separation a joint award to the winner of the Super Series may be made

Keeping track of the Super Series - who’s winning?!

To make sure the Sports Fans at home can keep up with the action the Super Series results will be maintained and published on a dedicated website (being built), discord and tournament reports for the NAF Tournament Director’s blog.
